Your physical and mental safety is the most important thing. While we vet all employers on KOVR, you should always take personal precautions when working in new environments.
Before the Shift
- Research the Location: Check the address on a map and plan your route. Let a friend or family member know where you'll be and what time you expect to be finished.
- Review Instructions: Read all arrival and parking instructions carefully to avoid wandering into unfamiliar areas.
- Check the Employer: Look at the employer's rating and reviews from other workers.
On-Site Safety
- Identify Support: Upon arrival, find the on-site contact person. Note the exits and any safety equipment (first-aid kits, etc.).
- Property Safety: Never leave your personal belongings (wallet, phone, keys) in unsecured public areas. Ask the manager where workers can store their gear.
- Trust Your Gut: If a situation or person makes you feel uncomfortable, find a manager immediately. If you ever feel unsafe to continue, you have the right to leave.
KOVR Safety Feature: You can share your "Live Shift Status" with a contact from within the app. This allows them to see when you clock in and out.
Workplace Boundaries
You should always be treated with respect. Professionalism is a two-way street. It is never okay for an employer or teammate to:
- Ask for your personal phone number or social media (communicate via KOVR app only).
- Make inappropriate comments or gestures.
- Ask you to perform work that is clearly dangerous or for which you aren't trained.
After the Shift
When leaving, especially late at night, try to walk to your car or public transit with other workers. If you had any safety concerns, be sure to include them in your review andreport them to KOVR.
Emergency Situations
In an immediate emergency (medical or crime in progress), **call 911 immediately**. Once you are safe, alert the KOVR team through the app.
